the holiday gift guide, kitchen edition - replacement stainless steel grill grates
by:Longzhao BBQ
2020-04-26
When I was 19, my mother gave me a kitchen mixer.
This sums up many things about my family: we cook a lot, we eat a lot, we give each other kitchen utensils for gifts.
My friends call our house a "museum of home appliances" and I have to say that they have a little bit.
On the other hand, this is a delicious hobby.
Here are the items I recommend to the chef in your life, even if you are that chef.
Everything is what I use and love unless otherwise stated.
I hope they can bring happy cooking to this holiday.
Microplane grater, $13 per list starts with microplane grater because nothing can make such a big difference at such a small price.
Cheese can be used with box grat, however, when you try to season the lemon or cook a little chocolate on the cocoa, there is nothing more irritating than scraping the knuckles on a fine grat.
This is where the slightly flat grater comes in.
It is basically impossible to hurt yourself, it does a better job of absorbing and fine grating, only removing a very thin layer from the surface.
I like to use it to make fluffy Parmesan on a salad or chocolate on a cake.
It will jump out of the dishwasher, clean.
Reference fridge magnet for $7.
50 did you realize that you don't have a quart size on hand?
How many cups is that?
You can look it up on Google, but your hands are covered with gook.
This is the source of the reference refrigerator magnet: in a convenient information that is easily available (and washable)format.
Favorite: Common measure equivalents, measurements of doubling or splitting recipes, and "How long can I keep this before I eat it again?
"Salt pig, $8.
The seasoning you use in cooking?
Unless you have a special diet for high blood pressure, the answer is salt.
Everything is there.
So, with it, you can easily grab a teaspoon when needed, which is fine.
Enter the salt pig, it can keep your salt open for easy soaking, but can protect it from splashing.
If the chef in your life doesn't, I bet he or she will be pleasantly surprised by that.
Some of them don't look like pigs for less eccentric chefs.
The kitchen guide recorded my attempts to solve the Spice problem over the years for $9.
So far, the spin store seems to be a terminal solution.
Spices are stored neatly, and then you take the shelf out when you need to find something.
There is also this mode, which stores them horizontally, not vertically, and gets very good reviews.
If the Oxo vegetable peeler is the least romantic gift ever, then the disposal elves are definitely in second place.
It's basically a slightly better disposal blocker;
It can get what you want into the disposal (
Water, a small part of food)
You can go in when the tableware is safely placed in the sink.
If you're not ready to put it in your socks, think about putting it in your own stuff.
One day I noticed that I had a fish shovel.
I must have bought it, but I don't remember buying it.
It's a bit surprising because I don't really like cooked fish.
Anyway, I left it on the wall for about six months as there is a good chance that I will cook the fish one day.
Then I realized it was the perfect size to transfer the barbecue to the can
Pot, or take a little pizza from the stone.
All of this says fish shovels are really useful even if you don't like fish.
Any big and delicate work is done better with an oversized spatula, and in addition to this, the fish spatula is as big as possible.
Essential Basting Brush, $12 Basting brush.
Unfortunately, the kind my mother has always owned, did a fantastic job of moving delicious pot juice on your bird, and it's hard to find now.
The bristles on my last brush came out in a lump and were baked.
Silicone brush does not seem to be a good replacement-
Until Oxo came up with this model, the model did a good job.
Obviously, its use is not limited to baking;
It is also essential to brush garlic oil on bread or jam.
Everyone needs a nice, sharp pizza cutter even if you don't eat pizza.
They are perfect for cutting out large pieces of dough with a bread stick or cinnamon roll, quickly separating the tortillas or grilled cheese sandwiches, or dividing the pie crust or pastry into neat pieces.
Of course, the pizza is also delicious.
Looking for someone with good, heavy, sharp blades and good feel;
I love our KitchenAid but they are phasing out and the rest is ridiculously expensive.
Oxo did a good job.
Looking at one, Alton Brown swore to this zylisss, so I 'd love to try it out. Pizza net, $12.
The 50-year-old husband is a little obsessed with crispy things.
I never worry about burning our dinner because if what I happen to Cook is too long, his eyes light up as soon as they see all the blackened parts.
If he is a puppet, he is a crispy monster.
Pizza mesh is the perfect choice for making an oven
Bake a snack for the crispy monster in your life as it allows the air to circulate at the bottom and at the top.
Please note that I didn't actually make a pizza on this, but I have made all kinds of frozen food and bread --
Basic project with excellent results.
If you want to make something dripping, put a pot underneath to catch it. Spice-
Measuring spoons, measuring spoons for $13 may not be romantic.
But they are necessary and there is a tendency to disappear.
I don't know if they were thrown out or ran to the Pyrenees to form an underground culinary resistance, but in any case they aren't always by your side when you need them.
I like this set because the bowl is long and nice, not round.
Circular measuring spoons are usually good, but they have an annoying drawback that they are not suitable for most spice containers.
The set has six measuring spoons that provide some less common useful half size, and the spoon is connected to a ring that is easy to hang on the wall.
I am not saying that you will never lose the spoons if you hang them on the wall. . .
But you may lose them less. 12-
Inch pliers, $13 good silicone-
There are sharp pliers on the list of things I can never have.
This is not just to take the meat out of the hot liquid, or to turn over the dumplings in the middle of the chef, but also to bring the steamer out of the pressure cooker and retrieve the hot pot from the awkward position.
Oh, you can also stir with them.
I love Oxos, it has a good locking mechanism that has endured daily abuse for years without cracking.
They have a variety of lengths, but I 've never found any advantage in the short pliers, and it's nice to occasionally get something from the whole foot.
Non stick pan, $15, I don't use non stick pan very often-
They prevent the food from developing delicious brown sticky parts that bring so much flavor.
But there will be no other use anywhere else.
For example, make a bowl of Parma cheese for a hearty dinner.
And, of course, boiled eggs.
We used Bialette Arte 8.
Inches, good shape, uniform heating, maintained well through daily use.
If you can't find that one, find a pot that is not too thin, because it is in danger of burning;
You want something thick enough to keep and distribute heat evenly during cooking.
Silicone Ice Tray, $15 ice tray? Really?
Toothpick, what's next?
But seriously: silicone ice cubes trays are very useful and they are not only good for ice cubes.
I use them to freeze the cheese grits so I can make bread for themfry them. (
Recipes are available upon request. )
My husband made smoothies with their frozen peanut butter.
Make garlic sauce in the summer, freeze with separate food in the dark winter, or fill with cookie dough so you can take out separate cookies to bake. Why silicone?
Since you can remove the cubes separately, they pop up perfectly and don't stick together.
Winding dispenser, $15 in these days
The kitchen hemp rope is not as indispensable as before.
But when you do need to tie the turkey's legs together, or tie the herbs together for stew, there are not many good alternatives.
The hemp rope in the kitchen is not so itchy.
What they used to bundle the newspapers together;
This is a clean and soft thread that will not be separated in your cooking and will not leave a taste or fiber in your food.
I have a festival Hemp Line dispenser with chicken on it, but you can also find a more streamlined model.
The important thing to look for is a well
The cutting blade located at the top so that you can pull and cut the winding with one hand.
When you try to wrap the turkey's legs together, it is unlikely that you will have a second hand to cut freely.
I'm not saying you can't stir things perfectly with a good, old thing
Kitchen utensils.
But the final ball will surprise you extra and look cool.
Also, this isn't actually much more expensive than a normal blender, so why not just enjoy it?
Is this the least romantic gift ever?
This is probably the least romantic gift ever.
But if you're still using the old peeler your mom bought at the hardware store in 1972, it's time to upgrade.
I can't explain why Oxo peelers are better; they just are.
They work well for your hands and they remove a thin layer of stuff instead of digging out half of the potatoes ---
Or, instead, force you to stand in front of the sink for half an hour and take the tiny, delicate skin from here and there.
If you make a potato on Christmas Day, give it to someone as a gift if you are the only one.
Silicone prep bowl, $15, I bought a set of the cutest prep bowl for Thanksgiving at Target.
Manufactured by Wilton, they are silicone and have convenient measuring lines inside the bowl.
Unfortunately, I gave them lightly to my mother on the grounds that it was easy to find another set.
The sites of Amazon, Target and Wilton deny all the knowledge of these bowls.
This is the closest thing I can find: it has four bowls, not five, but you see.
Plenty, I like the bowl of Pourfect (see below)
But these are very useful for small items like vanilla or nuts.
Ice cream spoon, $15 a ice cream spoon is another area where quality has a big impact: you need something heavy enough to dig out frozen desserts without bending.
Do not pay attention to features that are not needed, such as small levers that pop up the spoon. (
Ice cream is not very sticky and the mechanism is very likely to break and shorten the life of your spoon.
Just look for a heavy spoon that suits your hand, just like this one. )
Egg separator, $15 technically, you don't need an egg separator;
You can do this by carefully moving the egg yolks back and forth between the half of the shell, or by breaking the eggs into a well
Wash the palm and let the white touch the bowl.
But the operation of egg shells can be tricky, especially for beginners, "egg yolks in their hands" will squeeze a lot of people out, especially those who don't cook so much.
Beginners chefs should not be deprived of the pleasure of protein due to lack of skills or excessive extrusion.
The egg separator is here: you break the egg, the egg yolk will run out, and so on: the separated egg.
I love this Kuhn Rikon, it's a bit picky, but when you're done, it lets you flip the egg yolks neatly into a separate container.
The gravy separator, $15, can separate the fat from the feces or soup in the pan without using the fat separator.
Unfortunately, time is disgusting too.
Consumption and chaos.
The basic principle of the fat separator is: the fat rises to the top of the liquid, so if you put the spout on the bottom, you should be able to pour out all the liquid while leaving the fat in the Cup.
Pour your liquid into the separator, let it sit for about five minutes, and then pour the skim juice into the gravy or soup bowl.
This is one of the things that you don't realize is completely necessary before you have it, and then you can't separate because of love or money.
$16 silicone steamer, my mother had a handy little foldable steamer when I grew up and we used it for almost everything.
This is the next generation: it requires huge abuse that can be used in non-stick pans and can be stored almost anywhere.
Its legs are small and can keep your food away from water as it is silicone so you can squeeze it into a jar that is not big enough.
I use it several times a week in a pressure cooker.
Coffee grinder, the $16 Apr $ opos discussed above, there are a lot of delicious volatile substances in the coffee that disappear quickly after grinding.
Grinding your own blade with a simple blade grinder is cheap and easy.
It's not as good as a burrs grinder ---
The grinding is not exactly the same, and the friction heats the coffee slightly, thus changing the taste.
But the difference between pre-
Grinding Coffee and Coffee fresh grinding in the blade grinder is much larger than the difference between the blade grinder and the burr grinder-
$25, blade-
It's easier to drink ground coffee.
These grinding machines are also great spice grinding machines, although you should not use the same one as coffee.
If you fire it a lot, you'll notice everything ---
Your cabinet, your stove. -
Covered with oil.
You can't solve the problem completely, but you can control it by deploying a splash guard.
It prevents large drops of oil from jumping out of the pan into inappropriate places, such as your soft exposed skin.
It also prevents you from having to clean up a lot of disgusting old oil from the stove surface.
Kyocera ceramic slicer, $20 like a lot of chefs, I have considered the idea of buying mandolin and maybe I will do it one day.
But they are big and hard to store, which means you're not willing to take it out in the first place.
Readers for a long time know my rules: don't buy it first if you don't want to use it.
There are four settings for the ceramic slicer, from very thin fancy burritos to just the right salad.
It hangs on my wall with my other kitchen utensils.
Kitchen scissors, if your target already has a micro planing bed for $20, kitchen scissors is the next most useful gift for me.
From opening the package to removing the back from the chicken, they do everything.
Most importantly, they have a heavy blade from a decent company that has the ability to be taken apart and cleaned.
You don't want bacteria to build colonies at the joints of scissors, put small salmonella bombs into your dishes, and eventually develop the intelligence that will allow them to overthrow you and control the kitchen.
Butter boat, $20 hard butter is the bane of the chef and the bread
Diners everywhere.
But how to keep the stock of soft butter at all times?
Some people use butter clocks, but I have never succeeded.
I always seem to be sitting in a greasy pool with blocks of butter that fall out of the lid.
I like the butter boat, which uses evaporation cooling to keep the butter at room temperature and does not stink.
Change the water at the bottom every few days, your butter should remain sweet and can be applied for a year --round.
I actually have two. -
A salty one, a salty one.
$20, it's a great gift for people who don't have a food processor, but it's very handy even if you have it.
Basically you shoot the top, a blade down and cut your food;
It rotates when it retracts again, so a few slaps will give you a good cut.
Perfect for herbs, nuts, onions or just about anything you want to chop.
I like the Oxo model, which is sturdy and can be thoroughly cleaned in the dishwasher. Wilton Trim-N-
Rotate the cake stand for $20. This is a gift that is only useful to people who want to decorate the cake.
But it's really useful if you have people like this in your life.
If you want to get a really uniform pipe, it's hard to do it without a rotating bracket.
If you want to move the cake to a more upscale place to eat, well, you just bought a fish spatula, don't you?
Kuhn Rikon spice grinder, if you have used spices only from the bottle, $20, Fresh Spice is a revelation.
Grinding spices will expose more surface areas to the air, so volatile chemicals that provide spices will evaporate. That's why pre-
The ground black pepper is bitter, spicy and fresh-
The black pepper is very spicy.
You may have a pepper mill, but this is not the only spice you can grind: cinnamon, nutmeg, dried ginger, cloves. . .
You can even make your own mustard.
The Kuhn Rikon grinder is good because it is easy to clean (
Is to grind some coarse salt)
And have a lot of spice grinding.
I found the $21 Stop strip last year and I still love it.
This is basically a silicone lid that you put on your pan, which makes it impossible to boil;
The clever design breaks the bubbles, making it impossible for them to form enough foam to escape the jar.
Before I had the overflow plug, I wasn't sure if I 'd burned the milk without getting some milk on the stove;
It's very neat every time now.
Belkin kitchen tablet stand for $22.
I like to use the iPad in the kitchen. -
If you haven't checked it out yet, the Epicurious app is a huge improvement compared to regular recipes.
The problem is, I don't like to worry about my iPad spilling liquid in the kitchen.
I got a stand that should stick to the wall, but it lasted about 10 minutes before it came off.
Enter the Belkin stand, which keeps the tablet upright and comes with a beautiful stylus that you can use if your hand is covered with food.
$25 quilting silicone oven gloves, I have always liked the silicone oven gloves, it is very warm;
They are also waterproof, so even if the hot liquid is sprinkled on you, you won't be wrapped up with boiling heat pain --mitten.
But they have one drawback that they are not as flexible as the normal oven gloves.
Well, with the invention of cloth, this has changed.
Silicone hybrid
I don't know how they manage it, but these gloves combine the flexibility of the fabric with the waterproof insulation of the silicone.
Highly recommended.
The warm gravy boat, $25, everyone laughed when I put the warm gravy boat in my registry.
What I can say is that they don't laugh when they pour in delicious pipes --
Hot gravy on their Turkey on holiday.
The price is cheap and quite attractive and you will find that you like the warm gravy very much-
Or hot fudge sauce-
When you consider this purchase for the first time, there are more than you think.
Salad spinner, $25, I 've been stuck buying salad spinner for years-
What's wrong with paper towels? --
But now I have to admit I was wrong.
It can be used not only to wash and dry vegetables, but also to rotate the sand of bok choy and leeks (
Fill the water and vegetables, put in the sink, rotate)
And make your salad very evenly.
As far as I know, there is no particularly exciting salad --
Let You Buy spin technology for a specific brand;
I am very satisfied with the one I bought in Costco, and its main feature is that it is available in Costco.
Pick a size and style you like.
I like casual tea for $25.
It's kept fresh and I love the ritual of making it.
But unless you have a tea press like this, it can place the tea leaves neatly in a washable filter and squeeze extra liquid out of it to extract the maximum flavor
I particularly like this Bodum as it has a glass jug so you can see your tea with a plastic frame around to prevent your furniture from getting scarred by a hot container
I had a very ridiculous soda.
Maybe 2014 will be the year I finally gave up, but before that I loved these little mini
There were six cans of soda in the fridge.
Only soda or bottled water is served here;
It's not cool enough for food or dairy products.
But it does very well.
For someone who wants to have a cold drink at his desk, this is a lovely gift. 2-
When people think of a pan, they tend to ignore the merits of a very small pan, however, when you just want to melt a few tablespoons of butter or heat a little brandy to eat plum pudding, there is nothing better than this.
Also 2-
The Cup is very convenient.
If you bake as often as I do, then like me you may find yourself needing to take the bake somewhere.
Tupperware's cake shop is a shop that adds color to my own cakes and pies.
It has a nice large dome cover, locked on the base, allowing you to carry one or three
Layer Cake with no icing to touch anything.
While I love my iPad stand, I still have a lot of cooking books. . .
Many of them stick together pages with old food.
The solution to this problem is a cookbook bookstall that can keep your books out of danger.
I 've been using a simple model that allows the book to lie down from an angle, but I just ordered the model and it has a splash guard, you can protect your page from, uh, your cooking skills.
The $40 sieve is very valuable, not just to filter pasta or wash vegetables, but also to remove unwanted solids from the soup, or put a delicate layer of candy or cocoa on the cake.
A nice graduation size allows you to get everything from a soup pot full of soup to a cocktail.
This is a very good gift for a person who just started or the colander looks a bit shabby. Cast-
Iron pot, $40. you can't beat an actor.
Iron Pot of qualityto-price ratio.
Cast iron is the perfect material for baking Coke because it will get very, very hot and will last for a long time. We have an 8-inch and a 13-
But I would recommend a bigger one if you only buy one.
Cast iron is a bit picky--
You don't put it in the water because it will rust and you can't use soap because it will peel off the seasoning.
However, it is very easy to clean: scrub with a little stainless steel and then put it on a high burner for a minute to dry.
No problem from stove to oven.
Be careful with the handle, the handle will be as hot as the rest of the pan, and if you are not careful, the handle will burn.
Chemex coffee machine, $40, my husband has at least one pot of coffee a day, so you can imagine that our family has a wide variety of coffee.
In my opinion, this is the best way to have no electric winemaker.
I don't like French.
I often find coffee raw and bitter.
Chemex uses paper filters, so the filtered coffee tastes smoother;
In addition, it is easy to use and cheap.
It's great for those who don't have space for electric machines or don't have enough coffee to prove their space.
Rabbit bottle opener, $45 a good bottle opener has always been important, but now a lot of bottle loaders are using plastic bottle opener, which seems to be made with some kind of weapon --
A good bottle opener is absolutely essential.
Rabbits occupy more space than old rabbits.
But it is absolutely foolproof.
It's especially good if you know someone with a little hard hand.
Silicone pastry pad and silicone rolling staff for $50, the secret for delicate, flaky pastries and pie crust is not to add too much flour.
Unfortunately, the secret of making your delicate shortbread crust not stick to the boards and rolling staff is flour.
This is one of the reasons for the hard crust of the pie.
Fortunately, modern science solved the problem with silicone pads and rolling pins.
Basically it's impossible for him to stick together, which means you can melt with less flourin-your-
Eat pastries almost every time.
I like to put these in one set because it's not great to have a roll pin that doesn't stick if the pie crust is still stuck on your counter.
The mat with a circle shows you how big the shell of a variety of pie trays is, but the main thing is to have a silicone pad.
Silpats are non-stick sheets for cooking delicate pastries.
If you want to make something like homemade apple sauce, $50. The food Mill is the easiest way to separate the delicious puree from the peel, seeds and other materials you want to discard.
There is an electric mill, but I won't be bothered unless there is a serious problem with your hand or arm strength;
The manual Mill is easier to store without fuss.
Used for fruit puree and butter, smooth vegetable soup, and anything you need to have a very smooth consistency. Crock-
A pot of 60 dollars, Frost on the pumpkin, the slow cooker is on my counter.
It has a summer home on the shelf in our basement, but its winter home is in our kitchen and cooks soups and stews several times a week.
Why buy a can?
Pots, not just stews and barbecues in Dutch ovens?
The short answer is "because you have a job ";
You can't open the oven all day while working, but you can open the food in a slow cooker in the morning and go home after 12 hours for a delicious hot meal.
You can use your tank service as a reward
Pot, keep the heat of the food;
We use hot cider at winter parties and mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving.
There is a very expensive slow cooker made by everyone.
It looks cute, but it's hard to prove this in functionality.
The slow cooker is not complicated: it is a fairly simple heating circuit, thermostat and several digital controls. Crock-
Pots works well and is a few hundred dollars short.
Find a big one (
At least 5 quarts)
And it has low and high settings, as well as the "warm" settings that can be switched to after cooking is completed.
The world of slow cooker is not changing much, but this year, Wacker-
Pot has brought some innovations: Tanks
Pot connection so you can Daisy-
Link up to six cans continuously from one plug, as well as iStir, which has an attachment on its lid that can stir food regularly when cooking food.
I have tried every one and they are worth a visit.
The connection version is really more like a server than the cooker--
The maximum size is 3.
5 quart, which is good for bargain and something like that, but a little small for the holiday main course.
But it's convenient to just need one plug, and they are built for stacking, so you can store a bunch of plugs in a very small space.
You may want to buy some if you play regularly.
At the same time, iStir is a normal large-capacity Crock-
Pan with stirring attachment.
I'm excited about it, but it's hard for me to think about Wacker.
I want a pot of food to stir.
I recently made a normal burginon beef in it, and it came out very well (
The meat is a little more than it would have broken, but it makes it more delicious).
This is not to say that the stir function is useless--
I think the chef might find that there are a lot of uses for it.
But I now see it as an experimental device;
This is an investment in discovering new East-West aspects that you can make with tanksPot.
Miallestick blender, $65, you can spend a lot of time on the internet looking at the stick mixer, reading the specifications of the stick mixer, and effortlessly browsing the comments on the angry stick mixer supporters, they insist that their garbage is better than the garbage sold by their competitors.
Or you can relax and do something more interesting because it doesn't matter;
These machines are not that complicated.
I chose Miallegro because it was installed against the wall and you know my rules: don't buy it if it's not easy to get there because you won't use it.
Miallegro is a Venezuelan company and I am pleased to report that their immersion mixer has done a great job of stirring eggs, whipping cream and clearing soup.
It also has a lot of different blender tricks that you can change with special tools but I have never;
I used the mixer heads and the chopping heads, and they gave me great service.
Many companies also sell rechargeable models, which gives you more freedom to move, but be careful: These mixers are heavy and have large handles.
If there is any problem with your strength or you have arthritis, you should stick to the plugin model.
The $65 Cuisinart electric kettle, you may have gone to the UK and experienced the joy of the electric kettle, which can heat tea almost instantly.
Sadly, you won't experience this joy on this side of the pond because they used 220-
We use a voltage of 110, which obviously means that our electric kettle cannot heat the water as quickly as their electric kettle.
However, the electric kettle is still very useful.
It heats the water faster than the stove kettle (
Unless you have one.
Business scope)
You can't burn the bottom of the pot.
When my grandmother was blind and had to stop using the stove, we bought her a stove like this so she could at least make herself a pot of tea.
Also great for office and hostel.
I have this Cuisinart and it is fine because the kettle itself is wireless (
There is a base with heating elements)
But if you're shopping for a real tea fan, you might want to see this kitchen appliance with very precise temperature control.
$64 mixing bowl and meter (
$40 can also be bought without measuring tools)
I was very excited when I talked about these bowls.
They are very useful for baking.
This shape may make you feel a little weird, but that's why they're so great: your ingredients are perfect, stable, and there's no confusion.
There is even a small hook under the spout that can help you balance it at the edge of the Holder --
Mix the bowl and put the last drop of ingredients into the blender.
You can break a dozen eggs in one of the bowls, and the shape allows the bowl to distribute them one at a time.
As far as I'm concerned, they are just the best prepared bowls.
Small silicone is great for a small amount of ingredients, but for mixing liquid with dry ingredients, these bowls cannot be beat.
Warm trays and self-service servers, $70 a warm tray is only good for one thing: the entertainment crowd.
This is something I do a lot, so I think this is very useful.
You can either place the jar directly on the tray or turn it into a steam table along with the side serving.
This is not for everyone, but it is very correct for those who use it.
If you have been grinding your own coffee for a while, you (or your coffee-
Drink relatives)
Might be considering switching to a burrs grinder.
It may be an expensive one, but there are some benefits as well.
First of all, you do get better grinding quality: the size is more uniform and the beans do not create friction heat.
Secondly, you can easily choose the level of sophistication of the grind without having to look carefully until you reach the level you want.
Third, it puts the grind in a neat little cup to minimize the overflow.
We are very happy with our wedding, this is the wedding gift that my editor gave us and we use it every day.
Waring Pro digital Fryer for $90. The best and worst part of the fryer is that you can eat delicious hot fried food as long as you want.
To save our arteries, we limit ourselves to frying once a Sunday a month, and to avoid the smell of frying, we only use it in the backyard.
With these notes, I love this Fryer.
It has a lot of capacity, not only because you can make more delicious fried food, but also because it contains more oil, when you put the food in the oil, the less temperature the oil will drop. Which means . . .
Fried food is better!
My husband and I had a great time thinking about new things.
We haven't mastered tempura yet, but I think we are in hush puppies and deep-fried grits.
Isi Gourmet Whip Plus, $100, is not a tool for you to go out every day unless you run an ice cream shop.
But it's a great touch from hot cocoa to your favorite dinner party.
Basically, this is the kind of whipped cream dispenser you see at Starbucks or Starbucks
But it can also handle hot and cold liquids.
So you can pour in your tomato soup with a delicious warm Parmesan foam, or put the soup itself into the charger and turn it into a fluffy cloud.
Obviously, it is also suitable for cold dishes.
Be sure to use the laughing gas capsule, however, as the CO2 seltzer charger that looks almost the same will give the food an interesting taste.
Copper salt and pepper mill, both for $110, we rarely put the electric mill on the table unless we have a friend coming over with a broken arm.
Instead, we have these unique lovely copper models
It also looks very good.
The long pole at the top is helpful for people with vision or hand strength problems and they can be as formal or informal as your decoration regulations. Instant Pot 6-
Readers have been telling me for years that I need to study the pressure cooker for $120.
I got an instant jar last Christmas and now I'm sorry I waited so long.
The Instant Pot is a very good slow cooker and steamer, plus the top
Notch pressure cooker, now on my counterround.
Pressure cooking basically allows you to cook food faster at a given temperature because it is under pressure so you can use less liquid.
Yes, I know you 've heard horror stories about the dangers of a pressure cooker explosion, but there are a lot of failures with modern models
Safes, and electric models like instant pots, you can leave the room at any time if they make you nervous.
But for soups and stews, this is great and allows you to prepare beans in half the time and do a really good job with vegetables ---
You can't get al dente, but there's one-to three-
The cooking time is very short and you can get vegetables that are always cooked with rich taste.
The reason for liking stress cooking is not just "faster ";
The shorter chef also seems to improve the taste of many dishes.
Soup, especially, is the best broth you 've ever made. The slow-
The cooker function is not as good as my trusted old opponent's slow cooker, but it is good enough that it is a good option if you only have a space for an appliance ---
Especially if you find it hard to organize.
Cook in the morning.
You'll want to buy some recipes with pressure cookers and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a lot of great books out there.
I have a test kitchen recipe in the US, which is fine, but basically a slight modification to the slow Kitchen recipe
I already have cookers recipes so I don't get a lot of new ones.
I also bought the "big book of pressure cooker recipes for Miss Vicky", which has the most recipes and is priceless as a reference, as well as "gourmet fast food", "For me, convenience food is a bit heavy, but there are some solid, very simple dishes in it;
My husband can eat bourbon chicken every night of the week.
But many of your best results will come from adapting your own favorite recipes to faster cooking times.
If you are willing to put in more work and occupy more space, $120 Chinois and pe, a chinois may be in your future.
Its grid is finer than the grid for food processing plants, which means you have to put more work into getting food through ---
But you will get a more refined product accordingly.
This is the smoothest, softest apple sauce or tomato soup you 've ever had.
Food Protection vacuum sealer, $80 to $150 I got food protectionvide machine (see below)
But it's great in itself.
Obviously, it extends the shelf life of refrigerated and frozen items ---
As you can see on TV!
It's great for hunters or people who bake coffee.
But it turns out that this is also a good way to quickly marinate;
The vacuum opens the fiber of the meat to allow the marinade to penetrate faster.
Seal it in the bag with a little marinade, or if you want to dip it into the liquid (
Food savers can't handle it)
You can buy a special soak attachment very cheaply.
With food savers, you can basically choose between manual or automatic modes;
The bag used in the manual is slightly less, which saves you a little money, but the automatic bag is slightly easier to use.
We squandered on the automatic and did not regret it. Zojirushi 5-
Cup rice cooker, $135, I am very suspicious of rice cooker-
I already know how to make rice.
Then a friend bought me one for our wedding.
Now everyone in my family has one.
Rice cookers make better rice than you do, especially brown rice.
It does it without looking.
If you realize that you are not ready for dinner, it will keep the rice warm for you.
Zojirushi is the best rice cooker and some of their models can get crazy --
Expensive and ideal for producing rice using pressure and induction.
But I'm very happy with their mid-term performance. range 5-cup model; its fuzzy-
The logic circuit monitors the steam coming out of the rice to determine when it is finished perfectly.
As I said to the Zojirushi representative at last year's International Housewares Show, it's hard for me to imagine the need to upgrade, because it's hard for me to imagine that rice is better than what my model has already done.
My mother bought these after hurting her hand for $140 and I was skeptical about it until I realized that when you stir the pan with salt and pepper, mixing pots with one hand is actually very useful.
The Peugeot factory is particularly good because they make it easy for you to choose the level of fine grinding, but I also like the model which has salt and pepper in one factory.
Sodast home soda manufacturer, $80 to $180, we got sodast Penguin (
Discontinued now)
For our wedding, we use it more and more over time.
Devices like this have network effects: the more people have, the more useful they are.
More viewers have enabled SodaStream to offer more flavors to mix with your seltzer, which means you can buy replacement cartridges and soda blends in more and more places.
SodaStream is generally considered to be saving your money, which may help, but what it really saves us is space.
We have a drawer full of soda mixed flavors that can take us to a small room for storage as jars and bottles.
We never realized we had no soda until someone wanted mogito.
I like penguins because of glass bottles--
I'm a little paranoid about the chemical infiltrating into the food, and anyway, the glass in the dishwasher doesn't get muddy.
Machines that use plastic bottles are usually cheaper and some have something cool
Appearance features, such as the ability to digitally select the degree of carbonated you want.
But actually, the most basic model can do whatever you want and it will produce carbonated drinks as long as you want. Enameled cast-iron 6-
Quart Dutch oven for $80 to $315, but what if you don't want these expensive gadgets?
If you just want to stew the old onefashioned way?
Then you might want to see a Dutch oven with a enameled wire.
They are available in all sizes, but for the average person
In use, I like 6-quart --
Large enough for a party or leftovers at home.
Le Creuset's is one of the most famous, but Staub also makes good companies, and Lodge is a great company that makes all my actors an actor
There are some lovely iron potslooking lower-priced entries.
I suggest not to buy pots with celebrity names on them;
Someone has to pay the celebrity and the easiest way is to take the money away from the quality.
Enameled cast iron can't withstand high temperatures like normal cast iron, so you can't use it to scorch.
But it does not rust, does not need seasoning and is easier to clean.
It still maintains beautiful heat, which makes it the perfect choice for a long and slow brain. Ultra-wide-
Mouth food processing machine, the KitchenAid food processing machine I previously recommended is about $200 (and own)
Unfortunately production has stopped and the test kitchen in the US does not like to be replaced.
So, let's talk about what to look for in a food processor. No.
1: multiple work bowls so you can prepare a multi-step dish without washing dishes. No. 2: an ultra-
Wide mouth feeder so you don't have to, say, cut the cheese you want to chop into small pieces. No.
3. a big and powerful motor. And No.
4. many blades.
You may not use them that much, but it is good to have a choice.
If you entertain a lot, or bring food to dinner, you'll be surprised how convenient it is to slice and chopped blades.
As always, don't buy anything you don't want to stay on the counter, because like a stand mixer, these are heavy-duty machines and you won't want to go out if they are stored.
The $220 barbecue purists will insist that electric smokers are second --
Rate deception that cannot produce good results.
However, although the electric heating is terrible for the stove (
It's not as hot as gasoline and can't be adjusted quickly)
, Is great for anything that needs to be low, slow, or even hot.
This is exactly what you want in smokers.
And, electric smokers can automatically control the temperature, which means you can leave and do something else instead of putting out the fire.
We bought a model with a window and I am sad to say that this model is completely useless;
You can't see the food through the smoke.
There's nothing to do with the side-loader;
It allows you to delegate more chips without opening the door, allowing the smoke and cold air to come in. This second-
There are edges in the model-
No beautiful loaderbut-useless window.
However, there is a disadvantage for electric smokers: they can be destroyed by condensate.
We thought our smokers were good.
But several bad heavy rains in the winter eroded the interior with no hope.
So don't buy it unless you have a garage or a dry shed that you can store. All-
The $229 pot, like a knife, is private.
I like aluminum because it is light and fast.
Hot cast iron;
Stainless steel for cooking;
And copper in slow simulation.
So it's hard to generalize "what pot should you get ".
"But they all need a pot if every cook doesn't have one: a very big, good one.
The sides of these pots are high so you can cook a lot on one burner.
This is my favorite. Clad 12-
In-inch frying pan: It's really big and distributes heat evenly and quickly.
Here I make the meat Brown, stir-fry the vegetables and cook a bunch of mushrooms and put them on the steak.
You'll be surprised if you don't already have a very good, fairly large pot to prepare the big dish.
Breville Smart Oven, $250 there are two basic ways for your toasting equipment.
If what you want to do most is toast, go to Target and find the cheapest toaster, it breaks down a year later, just throw it away and buy another one.
However, if you want a toaster oven, you need to care about its function and design.
I have to have a toaster oven in Washington where opening the oven in the summer is usually an invitation to heatstroke.
After I killed my old Cuisinart because of my unfortunate misconception about the proper use of oven cleaners, I finally decided to buy Breville with nine different cooking functions, from "toast" to "pizza ".
"The function is good, but that's not the real reason I decided to get it;
I got it because it had convection (
It loops the air around your food and even cooks)
Because it got the highest rating on temperature control.
In fact, I found it cooked evenly, Brown was good and made a very good piece of toast.
Plus, good-
So it won't heat my kitchen and it won't burn my hands.
After years of daily use, it has stood up very well.
Technivorm Moccamaster, $300, I believe I may have mentioned that I live with a coffee demon, the preferred machine for demons;
We had it when we got married.
Technivorm files, not weakened, etc.
The terminal machine has: it won't grind beans, and there won't be a timer, so you can set it up in advance.
It only does one thing: heat the water to the absolute perfect temperature for making the coffee.
But it's almost the best cup of drip coffee you can get, vacuum glass bottles keep the coffee hot for a few hours, so you can have a second cup of steaming coffee, instead of burning because it stays warm on the heating element.
My husband bought me a Christmas present a few years ago for $329.
I think it's a fancy toy to try, boy, I was wrong.
You should eat a meal if you eat meat
Provide cookware in your kitchen as this is just a killer app for meat.
It offers perfect cooked meat or fish every time--
Just give it a quick roast mark on the grill or cast
Iron pot and service.
A friend, his husband bought her one.
Cooking utensils after trying sous
Our ribs show her 8-year-
The old son asked them to bring Sue.
Machines are provided on vacation.
Basically, a sous-
Vide cooks food in a water bath pan at a completely uniform temperature, so it is impossible to overcook.
Most cooking involves applying a lot of heat on the outside of something until the core is the temperature you want.
Because Sue-
The Vide machine is cooked at a precise temperature, the whole piece of meat is perfect and perfectly suited to your needs;
It is impossible to overcook.
You need to wrap the meat plastic tightly, just use a straw and plastic bag, but if you want to use it often, you may want to invest in a vacuum sealer that can be bought very cheaply, and for other purposes. (See above. )
We have the highest half in the county, which is enough to make the steak eight.
Personal dinner.
There is a larger model, which is relatively more expensive and takes up more space.
There are a lot of moderately priced immersion circulators coming out this year, which allows you to turn a regular pan into a regular onevide machine.
They look very exciting, but I haven't tried them yet, so I can't recommend any specific models.
Breville Smart Scoop ice cream maker, $400 this year, we finally crashed due to sales and coupons and bought an ice cream maker with a compressor.
The benefits of this machine are: you can freeze ice cream faster and more stable, it is impossible for you to have a 24 hour model of a bowl in the refrigerator ---
You can make more than one batch of bowls without needing to re-freeze the bowl 24 hours a day.
The downside of this machine is that you can eat a lot of delicious homemade ice cream.
Not just that sweet;
Delicious ice cream is one of my favorite simple but impressive dinner appetizers.
We have a smart scoop and it has a 1. 5-
Quart capacity and the ability to choose a harder or softer ice cream as well as an ice cream and sorbet setting.
We are very satisfied with this. . .
But after I have done a batch, we must firmly put it away. KitchenAid 6-
Quart stand and mixer for $400 is probably the most popular electrical product.
At last year's Houseware show, the display of KitchenAid was occupied by a colorful and huge wall of KitchenAid mixer, in front of which people would stop in awe to see.
But while many do treat them as anti-candy, they are still extraordinary machines.
The motors are powerful and they offer an amazing range of accessories from ice-cream-
Make a bowl for the grain mill.
If you have a serious chef in your life, this is a great gift.
I have been eating for 20 years now, and I am very strong.
A lot of people are attracted to artisan models because you can raise your head, but these models have a less powerful motor (
Very heavy motor)
So I recommend this bowl. lift model --6-
If you have money and a room, go to quart.
You will be surprised how fast you adapt to a fixed speedhead model.
If you want to add a little color to your gift, throw an extra bowl and a coating machine that has a flexible scraping edge which is useful for cake batter.
If you already have a kitchen mixer for your gift and you are considering the attachment, I really like my ice cream bowl and my bathtub (
Helps to keep the Italian protein and other delicate cooking cool)
But the meat grinder is very bad luck.
The only warning for the kitchen mixer is the Baker-
Those who often knead more than one loaf of bread at a time with a machine ---
I have been complaining in recent years that KitchenAid has moved production to China and switched to plastic gears that cannot handle very heavy kneading tasks. (
This is clearly just a matter of mass production;
If you make a few bread during the holidays, you should be fine. )
But this year, KitchenAid is hyping
Its six metal structures.
Quart KitchenAid Pro is assembled in Ohio so have been looking at Viking or this cool Bread Maker
Models who look like Sweden may want KitchenAid to take another look;
The recent chef's illustrated review gave KitchenAid Pro a high score for kneading.
Compared with other brands, the versatility and universality of KitchenAid provides you with more choices.
Two notes: do not get kitchen utensils or any other top
It can be used unless it can be placed on your counter.
A good stand mixer is big and heavy, which means that you will hesitate before trouble taking it out of anywhere it lives.
If an expensive device can't stay outside, it should probably stay in the store.
This reminds me of my second point: all the colors on display look great at the home show, but I will stick to a simple option like black, white or gray.
There is nothing faster date than the color of the year, and the kitchen stand mixer will last you for a long time.
You don't want to keep your eyes wide open because your orange and eggshells kitchen looks so chic in 2012 lime green mixer is madly in conflict with the fashion prescribed cobalt and steel gray color palette God of 2022
Vitamix blender, $400 to $700, you may have seen ads and demos for Vitamix
A powerful mixer used by many smoothies and coffee shops.
I haven't reviewed it because I haven't reviewed it ---until now.
Mom got Vitamix 750 with some of her American Express points and I played too.
I have to say, it's great.
It basically reduces anything you put into the liquid-
Or whip the cream into a fluffy cloud. (
It worked too fast on Thanksgiving Day and I had to stop the loop ahead of time;
I'm afraid the cream will turn into butter. )
You can do what they call "full fruit juicing": stick an entire unpeeled fruit there and get the consistency of the juice in a few minutes.
This is the steam engine of the ice and sand boom.
750 is one of the higher
End the model, but I and everyone say that any of these machines will do just as well anything you can imagine-
The blade is very powerful, and if you put it on it for six minutes, you can produce hot soup from pure friction. The high-
There are various speed settings for the terminal model, which I think are useful enough to cover the extra cost, some of which also come with pre-
Programming settings for pures, whips, and cleaning may not be worth the extra money.
It's worth considering if you drink a lot of mixed drinks and have money.
If you make a milkshake or margar tower four times a year with a blender, I won't get it.
If you don't have the money, everyone at the family fair says Ninja is the best lowend substitute.
When I was trying to write a book a few years ago, about $1,400, I said to my husband, "If I sell this damn thing, I'll buy a Thermomix.
He replied, "Oh, of course, you can buy a Thermomix if you sell it.
"Well, I did sell it, and a few days later I ordered the most exaggerated kitchen utensils in the world.
Thermomix is basically Vitamix-
Caliber mixer/food processor with scale and heating element.
You can weigh the ingredients, chop up the vegetables and cook the food in one place.
This is also a very good ship.
It has a basket on It).
French onion soup was easy for the first time--
Put the onions in, process them for a few seconds, and then slowly stir them with a machine for a few hours until they are carefully caramel.
However, the killer application is sauce and pumpkin;
You can put all the material in Dutch sauce or Beckham sauce at a time, press a few buttons and come back in 10 minutes to have a fully cooked sauce.
I use it every day.
Of course, when I admit to having one of them, I raise strong doubts from some who insist that "real chefs" don't need an expensive and outrageous machine to make Beckham or
I don't need this machine. it's true.
I have done very good bechamel, hollandaise and creme brulee.
I don't need mechanical help to fry enough mirepoix for my stew.
I know how to steam on the stove.
So why buy expensive equipment to do it for me?
Because it's easier and it's easier to lower the cost of making delicious food.
I also know how to cook on open fire and with some simple equipment I can present most of my tracks on hot coal.
But I prefer one.
Insulated gas stove with well
Calibrate the thermostat so I don't have to waste my time on the "try Cake" and water drops that slip around the pan, or take the time to look at my fire.
With Thermomix, it's easy to start eating beef bourguignon in the morning: throw some vegetables into the machine and cook them while baking my apartment
Chuck is installed on both sides, and then directly into the slow speed
Cooking utensils for ingredients.
Total activity time: about five minutes, while it takes 15 to 30 minutes to prepare vegetables by hand.
This means it's easier to fit a regular
Schedule was tight in the morning
For dinner parties, it's obviously great to be able to throw your Dutch food ingredients in and lean towards something else.
Her husband uses it for smoothies every day.
Few other devices are so good at these many things.
The bowl was even put in the dishwasher!
Its disadvantages are very expensive.
It is not even sold in the United States. S.
Because I don't understand.
You have to order from Canada and I heard that Thermomix is cracking down on this behavior, which means you may have to go to Canada to buy one in the end.
No one needs this machine.
But if you have a windfall and you want to invest more in cooking better food, you might want it.
I put the knives in a special place because they change a lot.
I have two rules about buying knives: First, make sure you know what kind of knives people like, and second, never buy one.
The knife is very personal. -
What you need depends on what you like to cook and how.
And sets are never personal;
They are extended to the smallest common denominator.
So, think twice before you buy a knife, when you buy a knife, pay close attention to what your gift likes and how he or she cooks.
I like Japanese knives.
That doesn't mean they're made in Japan. -
The one I like, Shun, is Kershaw's.
To be more precise, this is a style of knives.
The two main styles you will see in the store are Japanese (Shun)and German (
Henks, triple card).
The edges of Japanese knives are thinner, which makes them a little better in delicate work, but it also means that they will become dull faster and not subject to much abuse.
German knives are strong and perform better in big and heavy jobs.
But this is a preference problem to a large extent;
You can do anything with these two knives.
I have both, but most of my knives are smooth.
The most basic set of knives is the chef's chopping knife, the small work's peeling knife, the jagged knife for baked goods and delicate vegetables.
My choice is onion 10-
Shun Ken Onion 3-inch chef knife-
Inch cutter and shun 6-
Ultimate Knife in inches.
The balance and weight of the chef's knife is absolutely perfect for me, although if the knife is for a smaller woman, consider 8-or 9-inch knife.
My favorite knife. -
The one I sent as a wedding gift--is the 4. 5-
One-inch chef knife.
It looks like a knife from a Mini Chef, which is exactly how you use it: for small shredding and slicing work.
If you eat a lot of bread, you should invest in a bread knife.
There is no need to go too far on the jagged knife;
If the metal is thick enough to keep the bread stiff, almost anyone will do so.
For this, you may need to buy a $5 saw from the hardware store.
After that, the sky is the limit.
The Santoku knife is a variant on the chef's knife, and its edges are straight, not balanced when you cut the knife;
I have a very good model of Ken Onion and I like it very much.
If you do a lot of things with meat and fish, it is useful to go to the bone knife, as is the slicer.
You can also add more peeling knives of different sizes: I like the mouth of the bird and the bigger 4-inch.
The professional chef will tell you that they don't need all the knives, they just need a knife from a good cook, it's true, but you won't work with a team of sous chefs traveling with their own knives.
If you want to invite someone else into your kitchen, you need more than one good chef knife.
Go with the knife and you need a place to store them.
I love this big knife seat that is far away, and unless you want to build your own armory, it has plenty of room for all your knives.
You need something more to cut in.
Unscrupulous people will attract you with beautiful glass plates, but they will resist their tricks: Glass will slow your knife.
Use bamboo or wooden boards;
They are soft enough to sink your knives in instead of destroying them, and you can regularly sprinkle a little sand from them to make sure they don't collect bacteria, the practice of acrylic cutting boards.
