MONTEVIDEO (Reuters)-
On Sunday, thousands of barbecue enthusiasts in Uruguay baked 12 metric tons of beef, setting a new Guinness world record and boosting the country's juicy top exports.
Nearly one of the troops set up a grill.
Five kilometers long fire
The fighters lit six tons of charcoal and started cooking on a large scale.
About 1,250 people roast beef, and about 20,000 spectators cried happily when a judge in Guinness confirmed the barbecue record was broken.
"I am very proud to be Uruguayan.
We have the best beef and now we have the biggest BBQ in the world, "said a volunteer chef wearing an apron and a chef's hat.
Starting in 2006, the South American country broke Mexico's barbecue record with 4 tons.
The barbecue was organized by the National Meat Association (INAC), which tracks foreign beef sales in Spanish.
Uruguay's beef exports soared 0. 415 billion last year.
About three countries.
Argentina and Brazil are also major cattle-raising countries, with 2 million people crowded between larger neighbors.
"Uruguay is very small and other events don't know, so we have to use these gimmicks so people can know where Uruguay is and what it can offer," said Fernando Perez Abella, vice president of INAC.
