refill disposable propane tank from a standard bbq cylinder

by:Longzhao BBQ     2020-06-15
I filled 1 pound of propane bottles from a large bottle.
I want to teach you how to do it. . .
Statement: whenever there is a risk of propane.
If you decide to refill the propane tank yourself, you must understand that you are at risk in doing so.
These cylinders are not approved for refilling.
That means you can\'t take your cylinder to the local propane-
Fully equipped service station and refilled.
This is illegal.
Refilled cylinders cannot be sold commercially.
Commercial operators cannot transport refilled cylinders across state lines.
Various restrictions and potential liabilities related to refilling these cylinders.
However, it is perfectly legal to use refills for individuals.
When you refill a disposable propane cylinder, you have to take some safety precautions and you need to handle it properly and do your best to observe --
Perform safety procedures.
Always do the recharge process outside.
Do not smoke throughout the process.
3 Make sure there is no open fire in the area.
4 wear safety glasses and protective gloves to increase safety.
Again, when you refill your own disposable propane tank, I am not responsible for any accidents that may occur.
First of all, you need the propane tank replenishment adapter of Mr.
The heater is also called a Mac coupler.
They are easy to find on Ebay or Cabela\'s website.
Link to Ebay: link to Cabela: a standard propane tank, at least 50% full empty disposable cylinders, a kitchen scale and a notepad are also required to track the weight of the cylinder.
I also recommend safety glasses and gloves for increased safety (
Not shown on the picture)
I collect empty cylinders from the camp I visited.
Most people put them in the recycling basket I collected.
I also collect plastic caps because I always put my cylinder and plastic cap together to protect the tread and the armor-piercing valve.
Looking for bottles without dents or rust and bottles without old ones (
Production date stamped on bottle)
There are two types of disposable items for Tootles: type 1 with plastic base (Coleman Type)
Type 2 with metal base I like type 2 because the metal base does not fall off the bottle like a plastic cover, but both types work.
They have different empty weights and for the best results we checked for an hour in step 6.
This operation reduces the pressure in the cylinder.
To refill the cylinder, you must create a differential pressure between the feeder and the receiving tank.
Put your BBQ cylinder in warm water (not hot)
1/2 hours or so.
This operation increases the pressure in the tank.
If your bottle is in the warm and sunny Sun, skip this step and you don\'t need to do so.
Weigh empty cylinders.
After I weighted the 24 tanks I gave you my result: type 1 plastic base (Coleman Type)
Average Empty weight: 384g which means that the weight of 100% full cans is 849g (
384g skin weight 465g propane)
The average empty weight of the type 2 metal base: 417g which means that the full tank weight of 100% is 882g (
417G skin weight 465g propane)
To complete the refilling process, perform the following steps: 1 insert the refilling adapter into the large tank. 2 twist the small Thanks on the adapter.
3 flip the tank like on the picture.
4 open the valve.
The instructions say let you open for 1 minute but you will hear the propane stop flowing after 30 minutes40 seconds.
Close the valve when the flow stops sound.
5 flip the big tank again and remove the small tank of the adapter.
In the process, some propane escapes from the adapter.
Repeat the operation until you are filled with all the tanks.
Weigh the cylinder to check the results: in the first picture, you see a Coleman type tank of 89% (
Total weight 797G)797g (total weight)-384g (empty)
= 413g propane weight 413g/465g =. 888 or 89%
In the second picture, you will see the metal base type tank filled at 87% (
Total weight 822G)822g (total weight)-417g (empty)
= 405g propane weight 405g/465g =. 870 or 87%
I have never refilled a cylinder of more than 100%, but if you do, I would suggest putting it on gaz burning appliances so that the extra gas leaks
Once you refill the cylinder, you should put some soapy water on both valves (
Pressure relief valve and regular valve you connect to the equipment)
Check if there are bubbles
Bubble = leak.
I have never had a leak, but it is better not to take risks.
In case of leakage, I store the refilled cylinder outside.
I also put a protective cap on the picture to protect the thread of the boot.
Good luck.
